FAQ

Is this considered a patient physician relationship like when I provide care to a patient or when I provide 2nd opinion to a patient (face to face or online)?

No. This is a meeting providing customized information.   Think of an “interactive WebMD” or more like the information you give to your friends or relatives at a party. You listen to or read their story and investigations and then you INFORM them about the different possible diagnoses and different possible tests and treatments available.   Always make sure that you advise them to discuss this information with their physician.

Do I need to buy malpractice insurance for that or will my malpractice insurance protect me for this?

Just like you sharing information with anyone in a casual or non-professional setting.   You are only helping to better inform those asking you questions so they can better engage with their care providers.  As long as you are not taking over the responsibility of care and as long as you are not ordering any work up or treatment or sending any prescriptions these interactions are  no different from those social encounters.

How will I get paid?

Payment will directly go to your bank account electronically just like your paycheck gets deposited to your account. You can also have a real check issue to you every month, if you prefer that.

How many patients do I have to see each month?

We suggest that you have some time slots available  once a week but it is your decision to set your schedule as you see fit.  In general you can have four 4 different meetings in one hour. So you can have sessions with four patients every week in just one hour a week.

How long is each session?

Each session is 15 minutes of video or telephonic encounter. Patient will upload the history and physical examination report, all test reports and list of medications ahead of time of the appointment time, when making the appointment. You may want to spend a few minutes and look at the documents before the appointment time, just like you may look at the patient’s old chart before you enter the exam room in the office. Patient will be disconnected at 15 minutes unless the patient pays for a 15 min extension at the patient’s end. Or the patient might want to schedule another appointment at a later time.

How much will I be paid?

The payment depends on the model you are participating in. 

 

  1. a) In the fee for service model, you decide how much you like to be paid for each 15 minute session. Remember that USA Doctor is going to deduct its management, administrative, marketing, IT support costs (which will be discussed with you at the time you sign up).  Remember that the patients are going to select the physician based on their fees in addition to other criteria. 

 

  1. b) In the subscription model, you will be paid a fixed amount for each session (again this will be discussed with you and will depend on your specialty).

What if I don’t want to make any money and donate to a charity?

We can donate your share to a charity of your choice or one of the charities that we support. (Caring Hand For Children or Sahas).

How will I know that I have a patient scheduled?

You will get an email when a patient is trying to book an appointment with you. The appointment will be confirmed to the patient, only after you OK it. You will also get a text and/or email reminder 24 hrs before the appointment and again 15 minutes before the appointment.

What if at the last minute some emergency comes up on my end and I have to cancel the appointment?

We understand that emergencies happen. As long as you can give 15 minute notice to the patient, we can try to reschedule the appointment. We recommend that you offer another slot within 24-48 hrs to avoid any unhappy clients.

What if a patient cancels at the last minute while I am available or patient does not show up at the time of appointment?

The patient is going to be charged at the time they make the appointment for the session. If the patient cancels with a 24 hr notice, The patient will be allowed to reschedule or get a refund. If the patient gives a less than 24 hr notice or no notice, the case will be handled on an individual basis and after discussing with you, the physician who was scheduled for the session.

How often do I need to visit the USA Doctor home page for any updates or other information.

We require that you visit the homepage at least once a month to learn about newer features or even to look at short video clips on relevant topics (medical information, healthcare, business and financial ideas, travel).

What if I or the patient are not able to hear or see each other due to technical issues?

In that case, we will need to reschedule the session without any extra charge to the patient and without any extra payment to the physician. Patients will be charged for only one session and physicians will be paid for only one session.

What if the patient wants to or does contact me directly without going through USA Doctor?

We recommend that you ask the patient to contact you through USA Doctor only so that you can be guaranteed your payment. In addition, if you provide sessions to your USA Doctor patients, outside the platform, USA doctor will bill you for its agreed upon management and administrative fees, as if the services were provided through the USA Doctor platform.

Do I need to give a written report?

Yes, we recommend a simple one page written report (sample visible on internal dashboard when you sign in) addressing the documents reviewed and and the possible diagnoses and possible treatment modalities. This report should be emailed to the patient within 24 hrs and you should keep a copy for your future reference, in case the patient calls for a follow up session later.

Do I need to maintain any records?

We don’t require any records to be saved as this is simply information and not an opinion or consultation but we recommend that you just keep the emailed report for future reference. You may want to keep audio or video records, if you and the patient agree and the consent is documented in your records.
